Follow the Light Across Aotearoa

Contemplative pilgrimages from first light on the Pacific to twilight on the Tasman. Journeys through the sacred landscapes of Aotearoa that invite you to slow down, listen deeply, and become attentive to the Presence of God.

The Journey of the Sun

From First Light to Twilight

Every Waypoints pilgrimage begins at first light on the Pacific and journeys westward across the land, arriving at the Tasman as day gives way to evening.

We travel with the light, through forest, river, mountain and open country, creating space to slow down, pay attention and listen.

The outer journey becomes an invitation to an inner one.

The Rhythm of a Pilgrimage

Waypoints is deliberately spacious. We travel slowly, allowing the landscape, silence and companionship to shape the journey.

  • Open road through a natural landscape

    Travel

    Travel Slowly

Moving through the landscape becomes part of the pilgrimage, not simply the way we get somewhere.

  • Quiet native forest

    Pause

    Become Still

We stop often. Beside water. Beneath trees. In places that invite us to become still.

  • Open journal in natural light

    Listen

    Listen Deeply

Scripture, silence and reflection create space to listen: to God, creation and what is stirring within.

    Journey Together

There is room for conversation, laughter, food and companionship. No one makes the journey alone.

Nothing to achieve. Nowhere to rush. Simply an invitation to become present.

What Pilgrims Have Noticed

Every pilgrimage is different. Sometimes what stays with us is a landscape. Sometimes a word, a silence, a conversation, or simply the discovery that we had begun to notice again.

  • Beside the river

    The still, small voice.

A moment beside the river that continued to speak long after the journey moved on.

  • Whirinaki

Joy and lament beneath the canopy.

Standing beneath ancient trees became an unexpected place of wonder, joy and lament.

  • Along the way

A familiar place became a place of prayer.

A place normally experienced as a tourist destination was encountered slowly, attentively and prayerfully.

The Way We Journey

Pilgrimage as a Way of Being

Waypoints is not about escaping ordinary life. It is about becoming more present to it.

We journey slowly, making space for silence, scripture, creation and companionship, trusting that God is already present, and learning to notice.

  • Presence

We slow down enough to notice what is already here.

  • Attentiveness

We listen to the landscape, to one another, to ourselves, and to God.

  • Companionship

We do not journey as experts and spectators, but as pilgrims accompanying one another.

The landscape is not simply something we travel through. It becomes part of the conversation.
